The parents of a young man named Aliyu Muhammad (Khalifa) from Kwabron Dorawa, Katsina, are accusing the community leader, Alhaji Sabo, of causing their son's death after his workers allegedly beat him.

In a press conference held on Sunday morning, the boy's parents and relatives confirmed the accusations.

They explained that Alhaji Sabo had ordered Khalifa to lend his motorcycle to transport some suspects to the police station, but Khalifa refused because he was not a member of the committee. They said Alhaji Sabo took the motorcycle and insulted the boy.

Khalifa's uncle, Malam Nababa, said he went to apologize to Alhaji Sabo, but later heard that Khalifa had been taken to the police station and beaten, leading to his death after being taken to the hospital.

Khalifa's death sparked protests from the local youth, which were dispersed by security forces using tear gas. Another youth, Isiya Mai Caji, died during the protest, and others were hospitalized.

Local residents complained about the committee under Alhaji Sabo's leadership, accusing them of overstepping their bounds in disciplining children. They said this incident was not the first of its kind.

Efforts to reach Alhaji Sabo for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone numbers were unreachable and he was not found at his office. Some residents reported seeing him fleeing with his family.

Police spokesperson ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu said they are investigating the matter.
